The bus is back.

Texas Dance Hall Preservation is bringing back one of our most-loved programs in a new format: One-Day Bus Tours. If you loved our multi-day tours — or always wanted to go but couldn’t commit to a full weekend — this is your chance.

On Saturday, May 2, 2026, leave the driving to us and join us for an unforgettable afternoon and evening exploring three historic Texas dance halls, with stories, music, dancing, and a true Texas dance hall experience from start to finish.

This inaugural one-day tour heads into the Hill Country with stops at Kendalia Halle in Kendalia, Anhalt Halle in Spring Branch, and Twin Sisters Dance Hall in Blanco.

A rare stop at Kendalia Halle

Built in 1903, Kendalia Halle has long been a beloved dance hall and community gathering place. Through 2024, it was operated for three decades by a dedicated couple who kept the hall active as a local venue and gathering spot.

Now under contract and with its future use uncertain, this tour offers a rare chance to visit Kendalia Halle at a pivotal moment in its history.

A stop at historic Anhalt Halle

Our tour also includes a visit to Anhalt Halle in Spring Branch, a 150-year-old dance hall listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built by the Germania Farmer Verein, the word “Anhalt” means “stopping place” in German — a fitting name for a hall that has served as a gathering place for generations.

The real thing at Twin Sisters

Our final stop is Twin Sisters Dance Hall, where the evening comes alive with an authentic Texas dance featuring Jody Nix and his band. BBQ and refreshments will be available for purchase, and you can soak up the atmosphere of one of Texas’ iconic halls before stepping onto the dance floor.

What to Expect

Along the way, we’ll share stories about the halls, the communities around them, and what makes each one special. The tour is facilitated by Erik and Laurie McCowan of Dance Hall Road Trip, longtime dance hall supporters and storytellers who have helped bring Texas dance hall culture to broader audiences through film, media, and years of on-the-ground advocacy.

Guests will also enjoy two-step pointers from professional dance instructor Julie Wilmer of Blue Moon Dance Company.
